Earlier that day two RUC officers were killed by the Provisional IRA, the first RUC fatalities since the ending of the Provisional IRA ceasefire on 9 February 1996. In this interview McGuinness discusses the relapse into violence in Northern Ireland and the potential for peace negotiations with the British government. On 20 July 1997 the Provisional IRA renewed its ceasefire. Tonight with Vincent Browne was a nightly current affairs programme on RTE Radio 1. |
