Citing an escalation in violence Unionists are seeking to exclude Sinn Féin from the Executive. In order to do so Sinn Féin must withdraw voluntarily, or the SDLP must vote with the UUP to exclude them. The SDLP have said they will not do so and McGuinness states that Sinn Féin will not resign voluntarily . Thus, the institutions are set to be suspended once more. Humphrys discusses the various issues with McGuinness who suggests that David Trimble has been sidelined by the more hardline elements in his party. On the Record was BBC's flagship political programme.
