On 6 May the IRA issued a statement indicating its readiness to begin a process to ‘completely and verifiably’ put its arms beyond use. Debate continued within unionism that month over decommissioning with the Ulster Unionist Council set to meet on 27 May to decide on whether to re-enter power-sharing government with Sinn Fein on the basis of this statement. Donaldson, Trimble and Martin discuss the forthcoming vote. The UUC later voted in favour of recommencing power-sharing with Sinn Fein. The broadcast also includes comments from Peter Mandelson on the UUP vote. |
